Community Animal Health Worker (CAHW) Orientation Training Programme under FOCUS Project was held on 20st September, 2019 at I&PR Auditorium, CHANEM Building, Champhai at 11:00 am under the chairmanship of Dr. B. Zonghinga, District Veterinary Officer, Champhai. The chairman welcomed all the newly selected CAHW’s and thanked them for attending the training after which each of them gave their own introduction. He expressed that the training indeed was a success as a total of 94 CAHW’s could attend the training out of the 104 selected; Champhai, being a vast district has people belonging to rural villages which are poorly connected to the road and many have faced transportation problems. He then introduced the officer and staff from the Project Management Unit, Technical Officers from DMU and Veterinary Officers of the DVO Office including the newly recruited Animal Husbandry Worker (AHM). 


The Chief Guest Dr. Lalhmingthanga, Dy. Director (AHVD) in his speech mentioned how the CAHW came into existence under the FOCUS Project, its motive, job description and how they have to perform their work while keeping in mind they are working for the betterment of the society. He also highlighted the Project goals and objectives and informed the members that Bottom up approach is required to execute the work and advised everyone to be involved and work together in harmony in their respective villages for the proper functioning of the Project. He mentioned that gender equality is an important task to be tackled under the Project and thanked the 36 female CAHW’s present in the training programme for their participation.  Last but not the least, he informed the members the various Livestock activities to be undertaken under the Project such as mass vaccination of domestic animals and poultry, construction of boar semen station, piglets distribution, pig breeding unit, slaughter slab in every village, availability of fresh meat for the people, introduction of dual purpose breed poultry, brooding unit to be looked after by the DVO along with feed and fodder demonstration.

 

Mr. George Lalthanngura, District Project Manager (DPM) proposed vote of thanks where he informed the members how the various 4 line Departments are all involved in the Project and requested them to approach all the concerned Department Officers when they needed help in regard to the Project.

In the afternoon session, Ms. R. Vanlalruati, Manager-Gender and Community Institution gave presentation with regard to the roles and responsibilities of CAHW’s followed by speech from Lallawmzuali, Technical Officer (Agri, PMU) where she highlighted the various components under the Project and also requested the members to provide help to all the FOCUS staff when they come to their villages as they are now a part of the FOCUS family. The members were also informed that they will soon receive formal training. A fruitful interaction and discussion was held afterwards and the meeting ended at 2:30 pm.
