Fostering Climate Resilient Upland Farming Systems in the North East (FOCUS), Mizoram and Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, GoM are collaborating on the implementation of livestock value chain activities which are in operation in the FOCUS districts viz., Champhai, Kolasib, Serchhip, Mamit, Khawzawl and Saitual Districts. 

The technical staff of the project including the Veterinarians, Veterinary Field Assistants (VFA) as well as the Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs) assist in the field activities of the AH & Veterinary Department in the project districts on tackling of the outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the state.

Therefore, to further control and contain the present outbreak of ASF, FOCUS Mizoram have procured 2000 nos. of rapid diagnostic test kits for ASF and 400 nos. of rapid diagnostic test kits for Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) which is handed over to the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, GoM in this programme.

The Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits of ASF and PRRS will be of immense aid in the diagnosis of the ASF and PRRS virus in infected pigs where blood sample will be collected and will be diagnosed for ASF as well as PRRS at the farmers’ door step avoiding all the troubles of sending samples to the laboratory for diagnosis. This will ultimately assist in the control and prevention of the ASF outbreak in the state.

Furthermore, several laboratory test kits and equipments for the diagnosis and control ASF including ELISA kit, Spectrophotometer, ASF primers and other reagents for PCR laboratory, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Examination gloves, Disinfectants (2-3% Sodium hypochloride & 2% calcium Hydroxide) etc. are still in transit and these materials will also be handed over to the AH & Veterinary Department by the FOCUS project.

All the kits and equipments for the diagnosis and control of ASF outbreak to be handed over to the AH & Veterinary Department by the FOCUS project is worth INR 71,63,367  (Rupees Seventy One Lakh Sixty Three Thousand Three Hundred and Sixty Seven)only.
